 The Scariest Thing

On Saturday I went to my cousin's birthday party at Build-A-Bear.

The sister and I were the only two adults without children so we stood around awkwardly, occasionally whispering to each other, "NEVER take my future child to Build-A-Bear!  NEVER!"

They had bear underwear.  Bear peep-toe heels.  Bear pacifiers and diapers.  Chants to make the bear come to life!  (My favorite: Pat your behind so your bear will never be left behind.  When the crazy Build-A-Bear worker patted her ass my uncle said, "WHAT?!" and I laughed.)

Frightening things are happening at your local Build-A-Bear.

But nothing was more disturbing than this:

birthday bear
A bear with a wig.  A red wig.  And combat boots.

What 5-year-old wouldn't love that?

Side note: In college (specifically freshman year) all the girls' boyfriends would take them to Build-A-Bear and they would come back with bears wearing fashionable clothing, sunglasses, and named the names of their future children together -- Zachary Andrew Morton, Joshua James Smith, and several Ethans sat on the beds of many of my friends.

ohmigosh!!!!!!! my husband told me that he went to build-a-bear in college for an ex and was completely embarrassed that he had to kiss the heart and name the thing. the people wouldn't let him complete it until he did those things. i told him it was his fault for going to build-a-bear in the first place. adults should not be in there to buy other adults bears. and that is hilarious you had friends who named theirs like that!!!

Build-a-Bear creeps me out... it's like taxidermy for the pre-school set.

And the gf/bf build-a-bear?? Wow.

I totally missed out on the Build-a-Bear thing. I didn't realize there was a chant and a naming ceremony involved in it. Creepy!!!!!!!

My old she-Boss had to take her son and two of his friend to Build-a-bear.  It was his 11th birthday.  She was weirded out that her 11 year old son would want to do that for his birthday. I told her that maybe he is gay.

Grr...I'll have to see if I can get some of my pictures in the actual blog. I don't have room for them all, so they're in my album.

Isn't that AWESOME that the picture that I took of that hideous cake (Josh actually BOUGHT it) made it on the site? And so quickly! And let me tell you, the icing was as disgusting as it looked. But the bloodshot eyeball rings made it all worth it!

Have you ever watched the HBO show Flight of the Conchords? I saw it for the first time last night, thought it was freakin' hilarious & you were actually the first person I thought of who would enjoy it. One of the main guys is the guy from Eagle vs. Shark. Check it out if you haven't already. You can rent it. We actually gpt it at the library...sweet! I love free DVD rentals.

ryc: good, i wanted to make sure you knew about the conchords. my husband and i watched the whole 1st season this week. i love when bret starts "angry dancing" and busts out in a footloose parody dance. we had to watch it twice because i was laughing so hard and then we you-tubed the actual kevin bacon dance to find all the similarities. ahhhh...so, so good.

First of all, I didn't know who the heck had made a comment when I looked at my page! That's one classy picture you have.

RYC: Yeah, Mark is TOTALLY classy:)

I used YouTube to figure out different versions of songs for our party. Then I downloaded them illegally. (Is there any other way?) I thought about Stevie Nicks' version of Silent Night, simply because I love when she says "IT WAS A...silent night. IT WAS A...holy night." She yells the background stuff. Nothing says Christmas like Stevie screaming about the night baby Jesus was born.

RYC: It would be VERY awkward. I'm also a very awkward person and I know that two awkward people meeting for the first time, yet knowing a lot of weird stuff about each other would equal...well...much awkwardness. I have never been on a blind date, but I'm guessing that's what it would be like. Kind of.

RYC: I don't much care of the Duggar family. But I LOVE me some Jon and Kate Plus Eight. Those kids are just so freaking cute! I want to pick each of them up and squeeze them...except for Mady. She's too much like her mom.

I'm just the opposite with American Idol. I don't like the auditions. I used to, but now I just find it annoying. I'm going to start watching regularly this week.

oh man.  build a bear.  onetime, the husband (then bf) asked me if i wanted a build a bear.  he went on to explain that his ex gave him a build a bear.  i told him don't EVER get me something his ex gave him.

ryc: thanks for checking out the cakes and for the comment.

the husband and i just happened to go to the mall with a build-a-bear store in it.  a bunch of little girls came barreling out with the  infamous bear boxes.

ryc: cake balls are soooooo dangerous.  they're like portable pieces of cake: no plate, knife or forks required.  they take a lot of time and counterspace to make because you have to roll each one, then dip each one.  i was thinking that if i make different flavors inside, but dip them all in choclate, i could put a different design on top so i knew what flavor was inside.  i sent the husband to work with a dozen to see what would happened.
